When we all start our businesses we have dreams. Some are lofty and some are small, but regardless, we have them. This is where we etch the foundation of what we want. We then start thinking of what our lives will look like when our dreams come true. Somewhere along the way when times get tough or time passes on, those initial dreams fade into the background.
Do you remember what your original goals are?
I know I don’t because I didn’t write them down. I didn’t put them in front of me. They were all inside my head. Years later, I really wish that I had.
The dreams that you have for your family and your business are not there for you to forget about them. You need to pay more attention them and realize that they should not be in the background. Those dreams need to stay in the forefront of your mind. After all, how can something that you dream about be a reality if you don’t remember what it is or write down the steps?
Here are some tips to focus on your business goals to keep them in the forefront:
1. Rewrite Goals: How often do you re-write your goals? For me, it is every Friday. I keep my goals fresh and I don’t look at the ones I had written down previously. I keep them in the moment. When I used to write them all down at the beginning of the year, I never saw that piece of paper again or I never updated it. I just left it where it was and I didn’t breathe them into life. Now, I keep them fresh every Friday.
2. Keep Them Close: Do you look at your phone all the time? I know that I do. Why not look at your goals all the time to keep them close to you. I keep my goals on my to-do list. I’m looking at my list tons of times per day so now I can see my goals all the time too. It helps to keep them fresh in my mind.
3. Vision Board: Vision boards are a fun and visual tool to keep nearby to keep your dreams alive. I used to just make it with items and then never change it. Now I change it, add to it or whatever I feel at the time. I love looking at the things that I want so that I can plan to get to get them. Looking at them makes me want them on days when I want to give up or feel like I can’t do it.
These boards can be tactile or they can be virtual. Whichever version works for you. Do what speaks to you.
I hope these ideas help you to keep you dreams alive. Don’t let your dreams fall to the wayside. If you don’t keep them in the front of your mind and changing them you won’t know what you are reaching for or it won’t be quite what you wanted.
You are what you think about the most so keep it positive and keep your dreams close!
