Having a social media presence for your business is crucial to your success. It is one thing to be on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest etc… but it is another thing to be using them consistently. One of the most heartbreaking things that I see on social media are messages from big businesses saying that they are going on vacation for several weeks and won’t be in contact til they return or they are going on a book tour and will post all about it when they get back. When you fall off of social media, it is like you are falling off the planet. As your posts drop off, so do your followers. They don’t care when your vacation is finished, if you aren’t writing anything they are going to lose interest and so don’t expect them to be there when you return.
You don’t have to be attached to your computer 24/7, but you do have to make your presence known and consistency is key. When people are commenting and liking your posts or asking questions and you don’t respond back for days a time, they are not going to feel respected and valued as clients or potential customers. If you are responding in a timely fashion and building a relationship with your audience, they are going to enjoy hanging around your pages, get to know you and may eventually purchase your product or service because they have connected with you. Talking on social media is another way or serving your customers well. Treat it as if they sent you an email. No one likes to wait a long time for an answer and if they don’t get one, they are going to think that you don’t care or that your page is dead.
Social media is all about being social! It is actually a lot of fun to get to know your audience, listen to what they need from you and serve them. If you are having difficulty keeping up with your social media presence, don’t be afraid to outsource and ask for help. By outsourcing, a virtual assistant can help keep up with the volume of responses that you get on your pages and the messages by responding as a member of your client care team. Do make sure that you are personally responding to your clients as well. You, as the business owner, are the reason that they are there so make sure that you are answering personally as much as you can.
A virtual assistant can also make sure that you have content consistently being posted to all of your social media channels. They can also spot check your scheduled content to make sure that it is working properly and catch any errors if something doesn’t work and make sure that your post goes off without a hitch. Having content prepared a day in advance is like studying for a test and making sure that you took all of your notes and are ready for the big day! Mix up what you are saying and make it fun and social!
