When I first decided to have an online business, I didn’t have a clue what to do. When I first got started in the online world, I started by watching what other people in the same industry were doing. Big mistake. I didn’t start with a coach at first. Also, a big mistake.
What I thought was the right thing to do, was wrong. Growing up, I was picked on and teased for all of the usual things that kids get who get teased will be belittled for: being fat, geeky, poor and not wearing the best clothes. I had them all in spades. Much as I always kept to my personality, I didn’t let it shine unless I was around people that I knew very well. I didn’t know my audience in the online world, so I wasn’t myself. I also thought why would they care to know anything about ME. They were there for my products, right?
I said and did what I thought people wanted to hear back then. I didn’t put up pictures of me much because I didn’t like how I looked. I wasn’t as healthy as I could have been and I didn’t want people to judge me. I have a gap in between my two front teeth so I didn’t want to smile online. I was too scared about what people had said about privacy so I never showed the behind the scenes part of my life. I never shared about my hobbies because I didn’t want to turn people away.
I learned the hard way and have come a long way since way back then. Anyone who follows me for any length of time will see that I am completely transparent.
I am authentically me.
That is when I am at my best.
You can see what I eat, where I live, what I do, what I do that’s fun and everything and anything in between.
I don’t shy from the gap in my teeth anymore. I smile in pictures. Maybe you never noticed it, but I did. Now, I realize that it is part of me.
I take pictures and if they aren’t perfect, that’s OK. I’m not perfect.
You can see all of my complete geekiness in full throttle. I don’t hide what I enjoy.
I talk about my personal life. I’m vulnerable, open and honest. The person that puts up the social media posts, who responds back to you and writes these blogs is me. No one speaks for me.
Social media helped me love myself more. It was a love I have never had for myself, at least not in the same capacity as I do now. If you have been afraid to let it all out, just do it! It doesn’t happen overnight, but the key is to not be afraid. Start a little bit a time. Here’s the newsflash:
People are not attracted to your products and services initially. They are attracted to the authentic YOU. >>>Tweet This<<<
I’m sure you have heard it a million times, but people buy based on KLT (Know Like Trust). When they get that vibe from you, your sales will increase!
What do you do to really showcase your personality online?
