When you work from home, the majority of your day is spent inside your personal office space. You sit there for countless hours and the walls that surround you are where you can draw positive or negative energy to get through the day. You want your office to be a room in which you focus a lot of attention so it can become your ultimate stimulus for productivity and zen.
Creating a Happy Office Space is going to be different for everyone, but some of these ideas may give you some guidelines on giving your office a facelift.
Paint: The Colors that you use in your room can have an effect on how you feel. If there is a color that inspires you and it doesn’t match your house to paint the entire room, go with an accent wall or colorful accent pieces.
Blue: Promotes calming and relaxation – perfect for people who are frequently stressed
Purple: For inspiration and Creativity
Orange: Productivity and Positivity
Yellow: Fun and Power
Green: Balance and Harmony
Images: Surround yourself with images that that inspire you. Hang your vision board so you can see it. Keep family pictures on the wall behind your monitor so they are easily seen without clogging up your desk. This is also a great place for inspirational plaques.
Open Space: Your office should not be crammed with stuff. This can make you feel less productive and even anxious. If the furniture doesn’t serve a purpose, move it. Less is more.
Clear Desk: The least cluttered place should be the desktop. This is not where you pile everything. Go for very minimal items on the desk and only the things that you use multiple times a day such as a planner, pen, notepad and a Success Jar.
Fresh, Clean, Airy: Keep your office near as many light sources and windows as possible to increase serotonin production. If it gets really dark like it does in my office, invest in sunlight replicating lightbulbs. When possible, throw open the windows to get fresh air. Run a diffuser with an uplifting scent or blend of essential oils to keep you motivated. ( One of my secrets!) If you want some beautiful color, add fresh flowers.
Keep it Clean: Once you get your office the way you want it, keep it that way. Don’t let it get out of hand and turn into a mess again. You want to feel good each time you go in, not feel like it is a chore because you are walking into a mess. Set 10 minutes aside at the end of your day to “reset” your office and put it all back neatly for the next day.
