There is a lot of push back in the business world as to whether or not a business owner should exercise their faith publicly. Many businesses such as Chick-Fil-A and Hobby Lobby along with a myriad of others have made headlines because of their stances on their faith and the way that they run their business. It has brought negative publicity and some positive.
The question becomes: Does faith have any place in business?
I say YES! It certainly does!
My faith is an extension of me. I’m a personal brand. When you purchase from me, you aren’t just buying my product. You are buying into me and the services I provide. You connect with me and like my personality or you wouldn’t want to work with me. There are rare exceptions to this rule, but for the most part it is true.
I talk about God on social media. You will either like it or you won’t. You aren’t obligated to work with me. If anything I say offends you, then we are not a good fit either way.
This is not only applicable to small personal brands. Big brands are more forthcoming with their faith too. Being on social media is all about being authentic. People will relate to the brand and what it stands for.
Many people are going to have varying opinions on this topic and say that you can lose business by expressing your faith. Others will say that they are not one in the same and should be kept separate. To me, if it weren’t for God, I wouldn’t have a business so there is no reason why I should have to hide him out of fear.
Be your best self. Be your authentic self. Represent yourself in an authentic way and talk about/share the things that you are passionate about. There is no substitute for passion.
