How many times have you ever asked someone how they were doing and their answer was “Busy”? Or how about when you are waiting for someone to return a call, text or email and when you question if they are OK, all they answer is that they are “Busy”.
Busy is not an answer, it is an excuse. You will find time for what is important to you. Tweet this
What you need to do is decide:
Are you Busy vs Productive?
Those two words do not mean the same thing. Ever heard the phrase ‘giving someone busy work’? That is usually work that is not productive and something that is done to pass the time. There is work in your business that can be defined as busy work. It’s all of the stuff that is not a priority, but you choose to do instead of doing what you should.
Busy is when you run yourself ragged with too much on your plate and are afraid to ask someone else to take some of it off your plate. Busy can also be the hours that you spend watching television or playing games on your phone when you could be doing something productive. I thoroughly believe that you need to do things to relax, but there is one common denominator that is always true. If you truly want to do something, you WILL find the time to do it. If not, you will find an excuse why you can’t and the answer is usually being busy.
When you are busy, you look back at your entire day and can’t figure out where the time went or what you did. Each day you could be wasting 24 hours. That is a day that you are never going to get back. Don’t waste the time that you have on things that can’t better your life or the lives of others.
Productive is completely different. That is when you are working ON your business, not IN it. You feel accomplished at the end of the day and feel a sense of pride. When you are productive you have outsourced or asked for help for the things that keep you busy and prevented you from reaching your goals. Being productive means you are relentless in reaching your goals and have reached full hustle mode.
See the difference? Most people are busy and not productive though they like to think that they are being productive. Get past the “busy” delusions and get yourself set up for success. Many people will never reach their goals because they don’t ask people to help or fear giving up control. I don’t want you to be a statistic.
Take a look at your entire day. Do you know where your time goes? If you don’t, there are some great apps that you can use while you are on your computer to see how much time you spend on the different websites that you visit. You can also keep a time log and write down what you are doing every 15 or even 30 minutes. Keep that for a few days and you will be amazed.
Once you discover your time sinks that keep you busy, keep spot checking yourself to stay on track. If you start noticing your plate too full again, ask for more help. I’m always here to help you reach your business goals so that you are productive!
