It’s tough to know when it is time to ask for help and many people don’t like asking for it. They fear that if they have someone help them, will they love your business as much as you do? It’s tough, but to get ahead you have to break the fear of delegating.

1. You are not getting important things done: Are you falling behind on the important items? Do you have an e-book that has been sitting on the backburner or you are slacking answering your customer service emails and responding on social media? If you are not getting done what is important, your business has grown to a place that will require you getting some help.
2. You are ready to release control: This is the tough part. The really hard part. Perhaps the hardest part of them all. Are you really ready for someone else to take on parts of your business. If you struggle a little in this area, try handing off something really small like graphics. Once you release that first piece, you will notice that you will want to hand over more and more.
3. You have an idea of what you want: To be ready to outsource, you need to have some idea of what is dragging you down and stopping you from sign #1. As you are going through your day, keep a notebook to the side and jot down the things that you are working on that are just getting in your way and you wish that you didn’t have to deal with anymore. This will give you some type of guidance. Remember: virtual assistants are like snowflakes and no two will have the same skillset so you want to pair with someone who can do what you need.
4. You have a budget: Outsourcing is going to cost money, but think about the money that you are flushing down the toilet from sales that you are missing out on because you aren’t getting the right stuff done. Weigh out the odds and see what your business can afford. You are going to need to have some money, but I’m not saying you will have to break your bank. Have a firm idea of what you can afford for the monthly support or project that you need. Do not be shocked to see monthly support starting at $300 and up depending on what you need.
5. You have done your VA research: If you want to open your doors to another person helping you, you are going to need the right fit. All of the services I have purchased from entrepreneurs online has been through connecting with them on social media. I have never talked to them on the phone or had to meet them in person. I came to Know, Like and Trust them from their social media presence and interaction. Do the same thing with finding a VA.
Some of the best VA’s are by word of mouth. Ask around — and of course consider me. Find a few that you like and watch them on social media. Learn their personality.
