The holidays are the time of year when everyone is indulging. Family dinners, favorite sweets and having a hectic schedule is a recipe for weight gain disaster. Just because the holidays are here does not mean that you are doomed to put on the Holiday 10. Here are some simple steps that you can put into practice to help you keep zipping up your skinny jeans. Here’s 3 Simple Tips to Avoid Holiday Overeating without starving, dieting or crying!
1. Remember you can say NO: You are going to get offered all kinds of food and most of it is going to be what you love. It is OK to pass and say no thank you. I’m not saying that you should turn down all goodies ( what fun is a holiday like that?), but you know when you have had more than your fair share. There is no reason to feel guilty about passing and taking care of your health. If someone is insistent, ask them to wrap it up for you to take home for later. At that point you can eat it at a later time or if you are really trying to be strict, just throw it away.
2. Take the time to eat: I know that most of the holiday problems revolve around overeating, but part of the reason for it is not eating properly in the first place. Make sure that you are still eating all of your meals and snacks. If you are going to be on the go for several hours, take along some survival snacks so that you keep something in your system. You are less likely to binge on everything in sight if you have been eating regularly. Throw some on-the-go snacks in your purse, car, pocket or wherever you can grab them easily. You’ll be glad that you did.
3. Don’t Deck the Halls with Boughs of Latte: Peppermint, Gingerbread and Egg Nog are the flavors of the season, but if you are frequenting your favorite coffee shop, those calories are going to add up FAST. If you do not want to order anything that contains an artificial sweetener or is fat-free, order a smaller size. You can save up to 100+ calories just doing that alone. Skip the whipped cream too, it just melts into the coffee and adds on more fat and calories than it’s worth. I’ve tried this strategy lately, order your drink with half the amount of flavored shots. You still get plenty of flavor and you are saving yourself a boatload of calories and sugar. It’s a win-win situation!
