Hours and hours of sitting at a desk as a busy business owner can really take it’s toll. It’s easy to spend your entire morning drinking nothing but coffee just to get enough energy to stay awake and get done everything on your list. I’d never say to not have a few cups of coffee because I love it myself, but you can’t live on it. Too much caffeine is not good for your body and it will start to have diminishing or sometimes disruptive returns.
The best thing to do to stay hydrated is to be drinking water. Now, I know that water can be really boring. Perhaps you don’t enjoy the taste of it and that is why you don’t drink it. Your work environment may also prevent you from drinking as much as you like, but there is a way to get in your intake. Here are 3 easy ways to drink more water:
1. Keep Track: There are a few ways that you can track your water intake. One way to do it is through a fitness tracker like My Fitness Pal. If you don’t track your calorie intake you can always do it by the bottle. If you have a 16 oz bottle, you can mark off on a piece of paper how many times you refill it. Ideally, you would want to fill it 4 times during the day. Whatever it takes for you to create a habit to make sure that you are getting enough fluid.
Another option is to track it digitally with a water app. One that I have on my phone is “Waterlogged”. You can also use the app to set reminders for yourself it you feel like you have a hard time remembering unless it’s too late. This will also remind you to get up and stretch and get some protein while you fill up.
2. Keep a Bottle: One reason that people don’t get enough water is that they don’t keep a water bottle near them. Out of sight is out of mind. Get a water bottle that you can keep by your desk so that it is always within view for you to get a drink. When I worked in corporate America, I always had a bottle that sat on my desk or I brought bottles of water to work and kept them in the refrigerator. Either way I always had it by my side. Now that I work from home, I do the same thing. I keep my water bottle near me at all times so I can stay hydrated.
3. Get Flavorful: Water by itself can be very boring, especially if you don’t like drinking something that is bland. Add some fresh fruit and herbs! If you are going to get serious about your water intake. Get a water bottle infuser. Add your fruit and herbs for about 30 minutes and enjoy. If you leave them in too long, some of the fruits (like lemons) get bitter.
Keeping yourself hydrated will not only help you to feel better, but it also can enhance your work performance. When your body is running properly, you’ll be amazed at how much more productive you are and how well your can work.
